In an accelerating and increasingly unpredictable world, emergency response teams face distinct challenges with communication and coordination during incidents. Instant, reliable connectivity across functions is paramount. Most of the existing communication channels struggle to meet the demands of modern emergencies, where every second counts. The need to put the right solutions in the hands of first responders is urgent.
The evolution of mission-critical broadband represents the transformative leap in how first responders communicate and coordinate during high-stakes situations. Nationwide mission-critical broadband programs have been in development for over a decade with multiple efforts made to further enhance emergency response services for the benefit of both first responders and the public.
At the heart of this transformation is Samsung, delivering a cutting-edge critical communication platform for emergency services at a nationwide level. Samsung has been a key leader since the early days of mission-critical broadband, offering not only devices and services, but also applications tailored to meet the unique demands of emergency operations.
Government agencies, along with telcos and system integrators commissioned by them, are piloting highly complex programs. They are looking at a wide range of components, from network infrastructure and gateways, to user-facing platforms and devices, to see how they can all come together. To complete this, a large ecosystem of local and global suppliers needs to be involved.
Mission Critical Services (MCX) represent the centerpiece of such programs. It’s the communication application for field users and dispatchers. It’s the admin platform to manage users and organizations. It’s the mechanism to ensure delivery of service, its optimization and integration with the existing infrastructure and other technologies such as Land Mobile Radio (LMR).
Samsung Mission Critical Push-to-X (MCPTX) is the key to a successful transition from LMR to broadband. It enables real-time sharing of voice, text, images and video, allowing first responders to assess emergency situations more accurately and act with enhanced responsiveness. Built on 3GPP standards, Samsung’s MCPTX solutions ensure compliance with industry requirements and enable seamless integration with existing 4G and 5G networks.
The MCPTX Core Solution is designed for multi-site deployment, ensuring uninterrupted service even when faced with disruptions. This robust foundation is essential for emergency response operations, serving as a cornerstone of mission-critical broadband. By integrating with the Core and RAN through 3GPP standard-compliant interfaces, the solution provides the appropriate users with prioritized access to network resources. This level of reliability requires a deep understanding of dimensioning, signaling and protocols across 4G and 5G networks.
The MCPTX Client Application, a crucial element within the Samsung mission-critical ecosystem, runs on a set of devices that authorities continuously refine with end users. The Client is not only a secure and reliable software component—it’s a solution designed to meet the stringent requirements of user organizations (UOs) on their chosen device ecosystem. Advanced knowledge of how modern handset devices work, from firmware to keys and accessories, is needed to develop and ensure flawless performance in real-world mission-critical scenarios.
Few companies can leverage expertise from both sides: network and the devices. Samsung, as the global leader and long-standing pioneer in network infrastructure and smartphones, is also leading with MCPTX, and is the optimal partner to deliver mission-critical projects around the world.
The design, development, delivery of the Mission Critical Services Core Solution and Client Application, and their integration into the rest of the ecosystem, are central to the success of programs designed to bring emergency responders from LMR to broadband.
Samsung’s collaborative approach ensures the solutions developed are not only technically sound but also user-centric, addressing the specific needs of the UOs.
For an ongoing project in Europe, Samsung supported several rounds of design workshops, involving authorities and UO representatives, partners, its local team and engineering experts from its global R&D centers. These activities are crucial to put requirements in perspective of the overall solution and prioritize the development of the features that guarantee readiness to transition to broadband according to schedule.
Today in Korea, emergency services personnel exclusively use MCX for emergency response communications, powered by the Samsung MCPTX Core Solution and Client Application. The solution was deployed on time, and has been used at scale for half a decade, ensuring these units are constantly connected and able to communicate seamlessly.
With long-standing connectivity leadership and expertise, Samsung is the key supplier for mission-critical programs globally. Samsung MCPTX ensures projects are delivered and operate on time.
Samsung is proud to have shared a glimpse into the latest version of the MCX Client Application at the BAPCO event in Coventry earlier this year.
From advanced push-to-talk capabilities to secure data sharing, Samsung designed these features meticulously to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness in the field. The ongoing efforts to refine and optimize these features demonstrate Samsung’s dedication to continuous improvement and innovation.
Looking ahead, Samsung is poised to continue its leadership in Broadband Public Safety, driving further advancements in mission-critical communications, including the journey from 4G to 5G. With a focus on innovation and collaboration, Samsung is committed to delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of emergency services.
Samsung’s ongoing role in the Emergency Services Network of South Korea and the U.K. is a testament to its expertise and pledge to empowering first responders globally. By delivering cutting-edge solutions that ensure reliable and secure communication, Samsung is helping to save lives and protect communities. As networks continue to evolve, Samsung remains dedicated to supporting emergency services with innovative technologies that make a difference when it matters most.
Together with its partners, Samsung is shaping the future of emergency services communication, ensuring that first responders are equipped to meet any challenge with confidence and efficiency.
